Scott Kay and FIT Announce Jewelry Design Contest Winner – JCK

Last week, Scott Kay and the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) announced the winner of their annual Scott Kay/FIT Jewelry Design Contest: second-year FIT Jewelry Design student JungSoo Lee.

The contest asked participants to create a men’s fashion jewelry set comprising three pieces from a set of four: ring, bracelet, pendant and cufflinks.

Scott Kay, the late founder of the Scott Kay brand, was known for giving personal meaning to each of his creations. Therefore, students were invited to submit a design inspired by something that was personally meaningful to them.

Participants created and submitted detailed mood boards, hand drawings, technical drawings, and detailed notes on measurements, materials, and color options for rooms.

Lee’s designs were chosen – after two rounds of judging – based on overall design, originality, creativity, and ability to convey inspiration through design details.

The jury included Nina Bruno, men’s jewelry buyer at Macy’s; Victoria Gomelsky, editor-in-chief of JCK; and Robert Quick, associate editor of Men’s Essential Magazine. Representing Frederick Goldman on the panel are Jonathan Goldman, CEO, and Mike Giannattasio, senior vice president of sales.

Scott Kay hosted an intimate dinner on February 8 with the five competition finalists, along with the judging panel and key members of Scott Kay and FIT. The evening allowed each finalist to present their final designs to the jury. Lee received a $3,000 prize at the event. (Scott Kay also rewarded second, third, fourth and fifth place with smaller cash prizes.)

“Partnering with FIT on this design competition continues to be such a rewarding experience,” Kolleen Meeker, director of brand management at Scott Kay, said in a company statement. “We were extremely impressed with the level of creativity each student had with their original designs.”
