My 5 favorite online fashion jewelry retailers – JCK

If I had my druthers, I would always be draped in rubies, emeralds and chunky slices of 24k gold, Elizabeth Taylor style. But, alas, a journalist’s salary does not bring in gobstopper-worthy gems.

Fortunately, the unrefined costume jewelry market is booming, offering millions of mass and niche collections that are both avant-garde and made with quality – a combination that was once almost exclusively the purview of fashion houses. luxury couture such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and Gucci.

Bold costume and plated jewelry is a category that many urban jewelers have enthusiastically embraced in recent years. I think of Greenwich Jewelers in New York, which offers unrefined collections from brands such as Alexis Bittar and Chan Luu.

Online, fashion jewelry collections have found a comfortable niche on e-commerce sites for contemporary fashion clothing retailers. (Contemporary, as we know, is the category that sits right below the designer in terms of price: think $ 400 cocktail dresses.)

Turn, To mix together, and Kitson (all of which also operate physical stores) are among the modern contemporary retailers that stock a lot of trendy jewelry online, from brands such as Fall on, Harlow House, Eddie Borgo, Erickson beamon, and Bing-bang.

High-end mass brands, including J Crew and Anthropology– also produce fabulous, high quality fashion pieces that are easy on the wallet. And fine jewelers absolutely need to take note of what these retailers are pushing – they are hugely influential with fashion-conscious shoppers. Remember when J.Crew helped kick-start the (still ongoing) Rolex craze by selling a clutch of the brand’s vintage watches online in 2008?

Here are my favorite online sites for finding great costume jewelry:

BoutiqueBop. This multi-brand contemporary fashion retailer has a huge amount of on-trend jewelry in its inventory. The site is full of brass and gold-plated pieces, and shoppers can find tiny rose gold and diamond stud earrings for $ 250 from ginette_ny, arty cuffs encrusted with Swarovski crystals by Alexis Bittar, angular hammered pewter rings from Avant Garde Paris, every Marc by Marc Jacobs ball of the moment, and delicate gold chains and pendants by Jennifer Meyer.

Net to wear. The luxury goods site is famous for its flashy designer clothes, but it’s also home to a well-edited cache of designer jewelry choices, which are usually well-made costume pieces. For example, a set of three colorful Missoni palladium and knit bracelets will cost a buyer $ 210, but earn them endless oohs and aahs. Moschino, Lanvin and the new cool Kenzo also have pieces on the site.

Barneys warehouse in New York. I disclose this site with substantial hesitation, even for commerce, as it has been a style secret to me for quite some time. And the inventories of styles are running very shallow. But, tucked away within its product pages, there is a plethora of designer fashion jewelry at up to 80% off. Think $ 1,200 worth of Proenza Schouler coins for $ 400. There, I said it.

Luv AJ. Los Angeles-based designer Amanda Thomas, founder of the costume jewelry collection, Luv AJ, creates bold, hard-wearing pieces that are often oversized, yet monochrome, perfect for everyday wear. The collection is largely costumed, but the manufacturing processes are solid; pieces can take a beating. On my wishlist now: a silver oversize shark tooth necklace (on sale for $ 100) and a 24k rose gold plated chunky link bracelet.

Alexis Bittar. The former New York club kid and CFDA Accessory Designer of the Year award winner continues to expand his retail empire, while producing consistently unique and relatively affordable pieces (he’s also creating a collection fine jewelry). Bittar makes jewelry for design junkies. The way he puts gems and metals together is incredibly inspiring.
